Film ini dibuka dengan aksi seorang "supir" Driver (Mel Gibson) yang melarikan diri dari kejaran polisi Amerika. Dia mengalami luka pada kaki dan tangannya. Driver lalu menuju perbatasan Meksiko. Dia akhirnya ditangkap oleh Vasquez (Mario Zaragova) dan Romero (Gerardo Taracena), polisi Meksiko yang dikenal korup. Polisi lalu menemukan uang lebih dari 2 juta dolar AS di mobil Driver.
